B & E Boys are proud to be able to say that the future of the annual Rossendale Schools’ Athletics Competition has now been secured through our support.
The contest is held at Seedhill Athletics Track in Nelson which being outdoors led to this year’s event being postponed in the summer term due to forecasts of inclement weather.
Being very important for pupils, parents and teachers alike who see the competition as an important date on the Rossendale school calendar, the date was rearranged in September and local pupils had the honour of representing their schools at the City of Manchester Athletics Stadium at Sportcity. It is an outdoor venue but with a canopy to protect the track and spectator seating area, it can be used in all-weather conditions.
The costs of using a prestigious facility such as Sportcity do not come cheap and, in all, schools had to find over £600 more to fund the event, which was won by the team from Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School BRGS.
As B & E Boys has previously supported the Rossendale Schools’ Football Tournament, we were more than happy to be approached by Brendan Baird, Head of PE at BRGS, to see if we would be willing to help schools to meet the additional costs of staging the athletics event at Sportcity.
Of course, we were more than happy to help. Our company base is close to the school and we have a strong association with BRGS, as some of our relatives are ex-pupils of the school.
We agreed to provide £500 towards the competition and are glad that the Rossendale School’s Athletics Competition will always be able to go ahead, no matter how bad the British summer is!
B & E Boys have a strong commitment to promoting local children’s sport, health and wellbeing in any way we can. The children of this community are its future, after all. We recently agreed to sponsor the Rossendale United U 16 team, and we will continue to support the community and its young people in the future.
We would like to wish all the Rossendale Schools’ athletes the best of luck for future events and offer a belated congratulations to this year’s winning team at BRGS.
