The annual Rossendale Secondary Schools Athletics Championships took place on Monday July 3rd. B & E Boys are pleased to say that we are sponsors of the event.
Last year’s event at Seedhill Athletics Track in Nelson had to be cancelled due to forecasts of inclement weather, as the facility does not feature any covered seating areas or offer any protection from the elements.
Last summer, B & E Boys were very happy to step in by making a donation of £500 to enable the local schools to rearrange the event for later in the year. The 2016 event was held at the City of Manchester Athletics Stadium at Sportcity in September, with Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School running out as winners.
B & E Boys are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the competition so that the Rossendale Secondary Schools Athletics Championships could again be held at the prestigious setting of Sportcity – a first class sports venue with the obvious benefit of a canopy protecting competitors and spectators from the British summer weather. The City of Manchester Athletics Stadium is truly an all-weather venue.
The event is a highlight of the sporting calendar for Rossendale secondary schools, and it is great news for all concerned that the event can not only go ahead – regardless of the weather – but at a world class venue too.
In all, 500 students from 6 local schools were taking part on the day. The schools competing were: Alder Grange High School, All Saints Roman Catholic High School, Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School, Haslingden High School, Fearn High School and Whitworth High School.
The track events ranged from 100m to 1500m and a full set of field events including javelin and high jump were also scheduled. As ever, it was an action-packed and exciting day. The event began at 10.00am and was completed by 3.00pm. Parents are welcome to attend the event and travelled down to Manchester to lend their support.
B & E Boys have a long-standing association with both Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School and local sport in general. The company is based close by to the school and some of the family’s relatives are ex-pupils.
In recent years, B & E Boys have supported the Rossendale Schools’ Football Tournament and Rossendale United U13 and U16 teams. The company has also supported Alder Grange High School Sports and U11’s basketball in Haslingden. We are committed to offering our continued support to events and activities that promote sport for young people in the
