B&E Boys are proud to announce that they have once again successfully completed the Social Value question set through Constructionline, receiving their Social Value Certificate on 23rd September 2026.
For B&E Boys, being a responsible construction company is about more than delivering high-quality projects. It is also about making a positive difference to the communities in which they work, supporting their workforce, reducing their environmental impact and helping create opportunities for others.
The Social Value certification recognises the steps B&E Boys are taking in these areas and provides an important way of demonstrating their commitment to creating wider benefits through their work.
What is Social Value?
Social value looks at the wider impact that an organisation can have on people, communities and the environment alongside the work it delivers.
In the construction industry, this can include everything from creating local employment and supporting apprenticeships to working with community organisations, contributing to charitable causes and taking steps to improve environmental sustainability.
Social value is increasingly important when it comes to construction projects, particularly where organisations are looking to work with responsible suppliers who can demonstrate a commitment to their local communities and wider social and environmental responsibilities.
What does the certification cover?
The Constructionline Social Value question set considers a range of areas that contribute to responsible business practices.
Community Wellbeing
This includes engagement with local communities, supporting charitable causes and taking part in initiatives that make a positive difference to the areas where a business operates.
B&E Boys have a strong track record of community involvement, supporting local organisations, events and initiatives as part of their commitment to giving something back.
From supporting Bacup Borough FC to contributing to community initiatives and fundraising activities, the team regularly looks for ways to support the communities around them.
Environmental Responsibility
Social value also considers the steps businesses are taking to improve their environmental performance and reduce their impact.
As a construction business, B&E Boys recognise the importance of considering sustainability throughout their projects and day-to-day operations, from responsible working practices to reducing waste and making better use of resources.
Inclusion and Diversity
The certification also looks at equality, diversity and inclusion, including whether businesses have clear processes in place to promote a fair and inclusive working environment.
Creating a workplace where people are treated fairly and have opportunities to develop is an important part of building a strong and sustainable workforce.
Supporting Economic Growth
Social value is also about creating opportunities and contributing to the local economy.
B&E Boys have invested in apprenticeships and training, helping people develop valuable skills and build careers within the construction industry.
Supporting the next generation of construction professionals is something the business is particularly passionate about, with apprentices gaining practical experience alongside their formal training.
Workforce Welfare
Looking after the people who make the business possible is another important part of social value. For B&E Boys, this means creating a safe and supportive working environment while recognising that employee wellbeing extends beyond physical health.
Mental health is an important part of that commitment. The construction industry can be demanding, and there can sometimes be an unspoken expectation to simply stay tough and keep going. B&E Boys are working to create an environment where conversations about mental health are encouraged and support is readily available.
The business has trained Mental Health First Aiders across the organisation, including Katie Whitham and Andrew Horsfield. Katie completed her Mental Health First Aider training through MHFA EnglandĀ®, while Andrew became a certified Mental Health First Responder after completing the Leafyard Mental Health First Responder Course.
These roles provide an important point of contact for colleagues who may need someone to talk to, reassurance or guidance towards further support. It is part of B&E Boys’ wider commitment to making sure employees feel safe, supported and valued at work.
The team also actively supports wider mental health initiatives. During Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, teams across B&E Boys came together for Wear It Green Day, raising an impressive £163.50 for the Mental Health Foundation. From Head Office and Kingfisher to teams working out on site, employees got involved by wearing green and helping to open up conversations around mental health.
B&E Boys are also proud to support Make It Visible, part of the Lighthouse Charity, which aims to make mental health support more visible and accessible across the construction industry.
These initiatives demonstrate that workforce welfare is not simply about providing a safe place to work. It is about recognising the whole person, supporting employees when they need it and creating a culture where wellbeing is taken seriously.
Alongside mental health support, B&E Boys continue to invest in professional development, training and career progression, helping employees develop their skills while building a stronger workforce for the future.
For B&E Boys, there’s no health without mental health, and supporting the wellbeing of their people will remain an important part of their ongoing commitment to social value.
A commitment that continues beyond the certificate
Receiving the Social Value Certificate is an important milestone for B&E Boys, but it is not the end of the journey.
Social value is an ongoing commitment, and the certification is renewed annually. This means B&E Boys will continue to review their practices, look for opportunities to improve and demonstrate how they are creating positive social, economic and environmental impacts.
The certificate provides recognition of where the business stands today, while also encouraging continued progress in the future.
B&E Boys are proud to be recognised for their commitment to social value and look forward to continuing to make a positive difference through their projects, their people and their work in the community.
