B&E Boys Achieves Cyber Essentials Certification

7th September 2026

Protecting our business, our information and the people we work with

We’re pleased to announce that B&E Boys has achieved Cyber Essentials certification, an important step in strengthening our approach to cyber security and protecting our business from common online threats.

As a modern construction business, technology plays an important role in the way we work. From communicating with clients, contractors and suppliers to managing projects, documents, finances and day to day administration, a significant amount of our business information is handled digitally.

That means protecting our systems and information is just as important as protecting the physical sites and people we work with.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed cyber security certification scheme developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It provides organisations with a recognised framework for putting essential protections in place against some of the most common online threats.

The NCSC describes Cyber Essentials as the minimum standard of cyber security it recommends for organisations of all sizes. It is based around five key technical controls designed to reduce the opportunities for cyber criminals to gain access to systems and information.

Achieving certification means B&E Boys has assessed its systems against these requirements and put the necessary measures in place.

What does Cyber Essentials cover?

Cyber Essentials focuses on five important areas of cyber security.

Firewalls help create a protective barrier between an organisation’s network and the wider internet, controlling unwanted or unauthorised connections.

Secure configuration is about ensuring computers and other devices are set up securely, reducing the number of ways a cyber criminal could gain access.

Security update management helps make sure software and systems are kept up to date, reducing the risk of criminals exploiting known vulnerabilities.

User access control ensures that access to systems and information is properly managed, so people only have the access they need.

Malware protection helps protect devices and systems from malicious software that could compromise information or disrupt the business.

Together, these controls provide a strong foundation for managing everyday cyber security risks.

Why is cyber security important for a construction business?

Cyber attacks aren’t limited to technology companies or large corporations. Businesses of every size and across every sector can be targeted, and construction businesses are no exception.

For B&E Boys, our digital systems contain information that is important to the running of the business. This can include project information, correspondence, financial records, business documents and information relating to the organisations and individuals we work with.

A cyber security incident could therefore have much wider consequences than simply causing an IT problem. It could interrupt business operations, prevent access to important information or potentially compromise confidential data.

Taking sensible steps to reduce these risks is an important part of running a responsible and resilient business.

Giving our clients and partners greater confidence

Cyber security is also becoming an increasingly important consideration when businesses choose who they work with.

Construction projects involve extensive supply chains, with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and other organisations often sharing information and working across connected systems. This means that good cyber security isn’t simply about protecting an individual business; it can contribute to the security and resilience of the wider supply chain.

The NCSC highlights Cyber Essentials as a useful way for organisations to gain assurance that suppliers and other third parties have implemented fundamental cyber security controls. It can also help businesses demonstrate to customers and partners that cyber security is taken seriously.

For B&E Boys, achieving certification provides another way of demonstrating our commitment to operating professionally and responsibly, giving our clients, partners and suppliers greater confidence in the way we manage our digital systems.

Cyber security is an ongoing responsibility

Achieving Cyber Essentials isn’t about putting cyber security in place once and then forgetting about it. The requirements are reviewed and updated to ensure they remain relevant as technology and cyber threats evolve. The current Cyber Essentials requirements are version 3.3, which came into effect on 27 April 2026.

That ongoing approach is important to us. Just as we continually review the way we work to maintain high standards across our projects, cyber security needs to remain part of our wider approach to business management.

Certification gives us a recognised baseline to work from and helps us continue to identify and manage potential risks.

Another step forward for B&E Boys

Achieving Cyber Essentials is an important milestone for B&E Boys and forms part of our wider commitment to running a secure, responsible and forward-thinking business.

We take pride in the standards we set for ourselves, whether that’s delivering quality construction projects, supporting our team, working responsibly with our clients and supply chain, or continually looking for ways to improve how we operate.

Cyber security might happen behind the scenes, but it plays an important role in protecting the business that our clients and partners rely on.

We’re therefore delighted to have achieved Cyber Essentials certification and will continue to take practical steps to protect our business, our information and the people we work with.
