Mike Carney and Shannon Pilling attended the Thorn Primary School Careers Convention last week – an event that once again proved to be a great success.
B&E Boys have proudly supported this School Careers Convention for a number of years, and we were delighted to be invited back year on year to engage with pupils and share insights into the wide range of opportunities within the construction industry.
Located in Bacup, Thorn Primary School is a forward-thinking, nurturing school committed to encouraging every child to achieve their full potential. With a strong focus on both academic success and personal development, the school places great value on initiatives that inspire children to think ambitiously about their future — which is why they hold their annual Careers Convention.
The event looked to deliver awareness amongst the children of job opportunities available within the local community and beyond, in order to develop their aspirations and to think about their long-term future. Thorn Primary School are proactive in organising this convention annually to give young children the opportunity to discuss potential careers with people in different industries.
Pupils had the opportunity to meet and speak with a variety of guest speakers, including Mike and Shannon, who each shared their personal experiences and roles at B&E Boys. Their informal and engaging discussions helped the children gain an understanding of what a career in the construction sector might look like – from project planning to on-site operations. Both thoroughly enjoyed the day.
