This White Ribbon Day, 25th November, B&E Boys proudly stand alongside Bacup Borough Football Club to support the #GetTheMessage campaign – a powerful county-wide initiative calling on men and boys across Lancashire to reflect on their behaviour and help tackle violence against women and girls. We are also joining the 16 days of activism running from today to the 12th of December.
As long-standing supporters and sponsors of Bacup Borough FC, community responsibility sits at the heart of our values. When campaigns like #GetTheMessage shine a light on the lived experiences of women and girls locally, we believe it’s important to amplify that message and play our part in driving change.
A recent Lancashire-wide survey, the largest of its kind, gathered responses from 4,809 women and girls. The findings were stark:
• 93% said they regularly modify their daily behaviour to avoid danger
• 78% feel unsafe in public spaces
• Over 90% highlighted concerns about anti-social behaviour and large groups of men
• Public transport hubs, parks, town centres and open spaces were listed as areas where many feel vulnerable
These experiences cannot be ignored.
The #GetTheMessage campaign aims to challenge behaviours that are too often dismissed as harmless – from sexist jokes and unwanted comments to catcalling, staring, and verbal intrusions, both in person and online. These so-called ‘low-level’ behaviours have real consequences, creating fear, discomfort, and environments where more serious harm becomes more likely.
White Ribbon Day marks an international commitment to ending violence against women and girls. By supporting this campaign, we stand with everyone working to create safer communities across Lancashire – from schools and colleges to charities, football clubs, emergency services, and local organisations.
