Exciting Announcement: B&E Boys Takes Over £500,000 Haslingden Market Refurbishment Project
We at B&E Boys are thrilled to announce that we have been appointed as the main contractor for the much-anticipated £500,000 refurbishment of Haslingden Market. We’re ready to resume work at the end of July and bring new life to this cherished local hub.
Our team has already begun clearing the central area of the market to pave the way for an exciting new social space. This vibrant hub will feature an open-air flexible area and a sheltered seating zone complete with benches, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of street food from diverse cabins.
The refurbishment will also involve levelling and resurfacing the floor for enhanced safety and accessibility, new lighting and signage, refurbishment of the existing toilet block, improving the trader communal area. As well as façade refurbishment of the existing trading units, new central covered structure and new canopies to the trading units, new paving and drainage. Additionally, new gates and railings will be installed at each end of the market to further enhance security and aesthetics with the intention of creating a brighter, safer, and more welcoming market environment.
We’re particularly excited about the open-air area, which will host music and theatre performances, mini festivals, and one-off artisan markets, providing a dynamic space for community events.
Councillor Adrian Lythgoe, a Cabinet member on Rossendale Borough Council and chair of the Haslingden 2040 Board, expressed his enthusiasm for our involvement: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of B&E Boys as the new main contractor and that the refurbishment of Haslingden Market will be completed by mid-October. Once reopened, the market will offer local residents and visitors a fantastic social hub and bring extra life to the centre of town.”
To celebrate the reopening, a calendar of events, including a young people’s market, will be organised to welcome everyone back to the new and improved Haslingden Market.
This project is being funded with £200,000 from Rossendale Council and an additional £300,000 from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Although there were some delays due to the previous contractor, we assure you that we are committed to completing this project swiftly and efficiently.
Councillor Lythgoe added, “We would like to thank everyone, especially market traders, for their patience and understanding during the delay, and we are pleased that B&E Boys Ltd is committed to completing the project as soon as possible.”
Stay tuned for more updates as we bring this exciting project to fruition. We look forward to seeing you at the new Haslingden Market this October!
