B&E Boys are to commence work on a new project at Nether Alderley Parish Hall

15th April 2024

Nether Alderley

B&E Boys are to commence work on a new project at Nether Alderley Parish Hall in April 2024.

This huge project is a modernisation and refresh of the existing building, whilst remaining sympathetic to the historic roots and practices that it was constructed in. It is set to run for 24 weeks, with completion happening in September 2024.

The Nether Alderley Parish Hall is a stunning grade II listed building, originally constructed as a school and master’s house. After being extended in 1817, it was then later used as a church hall.

The Parish Hall is a stunning venue used by the local community, hosting dance and exercise classes, parties and club events.

This project entails the alteration of the ground floor level to create a new entrance lobby, level floor access throughout and the relocation of the WCs into a new extension. New heating will be installed, including a limecrete ground floor slab with underfloor heating and a rewire, to ensure all electrics are safe and up to date. The existing small extension will be demolished, with the new extension having a timber frame and zinc roof, and new landscaping installed including a path and seating area. The exterior elevation will be repointed with the appropriate lime mortar and the re-roofing is also sympathetic to the existing structure as it will use reclaimed York stone roof slates. The inside will be redecorated and refreshed, with a refit to the existing timber floor in the main hall.

All of our projects aim to be sustainable, and will be sourcing local materials whenever possible. Whilst community is at the heart of all that we do at B&E Boys, making this building more accessible to all whilst working within the constraints of grade listing regulations is a worthy challenge. We will modernise and refit, but in a way that doesn’t lose any of the charm or significance that this historic building holds. These works will also ensure that the building’s safety and longevity is maintained into the future.

B&E Boys are pleased to be working with the architects KPS Architects, Quantity Surveyors Currie and Brown with WML Consulting as our Structural Engineer.

This latest project is similar to many of our previous works on similar grade listed buildings, and community spaces.

If you have a project in mind that you would like to discuss, then please contact us for more information.
