B&E Boys at Haslingden High Careers Fair

5th March 2026

B&E Boys’ Mike Carney and Oliver Baynes had the pleasure of meeting approximately 300 students at Haslingden High School during this morning’s careers fair. The event offered pupils a hands-on opportunity to learn about the wide variety of careers within the construction industry and ask questions directly to experienced professionals.

This isn’t the first time Mike has visited Haslingden High to share his insights. In March 2024, he attended a previous careers fair, engaging over 150 students in a presentation and one on one discussions. Sally Finney of Haslingden High said at the time, “Thank you so much for supporting our careers fair. I know our students enjoyed visiting your stand.”

During his presentations, Mike drew on over 50 years of experience in the construction sector to give students an insider’s perspective. He highlighted the breadth of roles available – from architects and bricklayers to town planners and welders – and explained the different pathways into the industry, whether through apprenticeships, T Levels, degree apprenticeships, or full university degrees. His insights help students understand how to find a fulfilling career in construction and the opportunities available for all interests and abilities.

B&E Boys’ commitment to engaging with the next generation extends beyond Haslingden High. Earlier this year, in February, Mike attended two East Lancashire Learning Group (ELLG) school leaver-focused careers events at Accrington & Rossendale College and Nelson and Colne College. These events aimed to introduce students and their families to careers in practical, skills-led industries. One event alone welcomed over 100 students and parents, all showing enthusiasm for learning more about construction careers, apprenticeships, and long-term opportunities in the sector.

B&E Boys greatly value these outreach initiatives, recognising the importance of supporting education and connecting students with real-world career pathways. Working alongside organisations such as ELLG and local schools, they continue to inspire young people, ensuring the future construction workforce is skilled, passionate, and well-prepared.

We look forward to continuing our involvement with local education initiatives and supporting the next generation of construction professionals.
