B&E Boys are pleased to announce the successful completion of works at Cedars School, Blackburn. The £1.25 million two-storey extension, with link building and associated play area and external works, has been delivered on time.
This major project was a key part of the transition of Cedars School to become a single-site school. It involved B&E Boys demolishing an existing school block, replacing it with a brand new steel-framed construction.
The steel-framed larch and brickwork clad building brings an attractive modern feel to the remodelled school. The position of Cedars School is an interesting one. Firmly located in an urban area, the school itself is set in beautiful green surroundings.
The aim was to deliver attractive aluminium windows and doors that housed teaching spaces that would provide a truly excellent 21st century learning environment, all in time for the start of the new school year in September.
As with most projects of type, the primary concern (other than the obvious pupil/staff/public safety) was ensuring that the works caused as little disruption as possible, as much of the work would be carried out during school term-time.
B&E Boys worked tirelessly to enable the day-to-day running of the school to carry on unaffected. Safe access for staff, parents and pupils was created throughout the duration of the project and traffic flow was carefully managed. We are pleased that the local community of Cedars School can now enjoy their brand new facilities.
The Cedars School project was built in conjunction with Capita for Blackburn with Darwen Council. Capita were Lead Consultants and B & E Boys worked under a traditional contact, carrying out works with the usual Boys supply chain and trained employees.
B&E Boys have completed a large number of projects within the sector of education over the years. Past projects include Burnley College and Oldham Sixth Form College. The company has just delivered another project on time for the start of the new academic year at Manchester Health Academy in Wythenshawe, Manchester.
Current live jobs in the education sector include Sedbergh School in Cumbria and Warwickshire College.
