Last week, B&E Boys’ Mike Carney had the pleasure of attending two school leaver-focused careers open events arranged by the East Lancashire Learning Group (ELLG), held at Accrington & Rossendale College and Nelson and Colne College.
Both events were designed to introduce students and their families to future career pathways, with a strong focus on practical, skills-led industries. Mike had a brilliant time at both events and was delighted by the level of interest shown in the construction sector. One of the events alone welcomed well over 100 students and parents, making it a hugely positive and engaging experience.
Throughout the events, Mike met a wide range of students who were genuinely curious about careers in construction, keen to ask questions, and eager to learn more about apprenticeships, on-site roles, and long-term opportunities within the industry. It was encouraging to see such enthusiasm and ambition from young people considering construction as a future career.

B&E Boys have attended events arranged through ELLG previously, and while each event is different, our enthusiasm for outreach opportunities never changes. Supporting education is one of our core values – whether that’s upskilling our current workforce, engaging with schools, colleges and universities, or contributing to local education-led initiatives that help young people take their first steps into industry.
Most recently, we also had the pleasure of meeting with an ELLG representative at the Lancashire Skills Pledge event, where it was clear that we share the same values around skills development, opportunity, and long-term investment in people.
We’re proud to continue working alongside organisations like ELLG and local colleges to help inspire the next generation and ensure the future of construction is skilled, passionate, and well supported.
