MAJOR CLIENT OF IITAC REQUIRES WINDOWS UPGRADE
ITAC undertake software, hardware and network upgrade work for Major Customer who was predominately using the Microsoft Windows XP operation system on their PC’s. These were spread over three ferries, five ports, a call center, two offices and two data centers.
IITAC are among 40 tenants at Kingfisher Business Centre including North West Services, Raydar Safety, Marwood Motor Finance, Horsfield Insolvency Practitioners to name but a few.
There were also Server implications and it was required that Server 2003 installations be replaced. Most of the Customers, PC and laptop estate were running Windows XP on machines in excess of 4 years old. Some actually 7 years old.
Recently purchased PC’s have been installed using the current Windows 7 release. There were 130 Windows XP machines to be replaced or upgraded, and 10 Windows 2003 servers to be replaced. IITAC were required to deliver a secure environment, minimize capital expenditure and minimize any business disruption.
It made sense to approach the project by location. The most sensitive location, the call centre being a priority. The most recent existing PC’s would be tested for windows 7 by installation of a new hard drive and used to refresh less demanding users. Any PC’s that failed to upgrade were scrapped under WEEE regulations.
