At B&E Boys, we’re proud to nurture the next generation of construction talent. National Apprentice Week is the perfect time to celebrate the incredible contributions our apprentices make – and to highlight why investing in their development is at the heart of everything we do.
Apprentices Making a Difference
Jack Highton is a fantastic example of dedication, skill, and ambition. Working on the St John’s School contract, Jack has impressed the team with his professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to mastering his brickwork. To further his development, he has enrolled at Hopwood Hall College, continuing his formal learning while gaining invaluable hands-on experience on site.
Harley Rawstron is another shining example. Recently named Construction Apprentice of the Year at the Themis Inspire and Achieve 2026 Awards, Harley’s achievement reflects not just his own talent and determination, but also the supportive environment B&E Boys creates to help apprentices flourish.
Harvey Crawford joined our maintenance team as a Painter and Decorator apprentice via Burnley College in 2024. Throughout his three-year apprenticeship, Harvey is gaining comprehensive on-site training while developing the key transferable skills employers value most. His role within the maintenance team is helping him build confidence, technical ability, and a strong foundation for a long-term career in the industry.
Miller Heywood, a joinery apprentice, was recognised internally with the B&E Boys Staff Award for Positive Attitude. His willingness to learn, team spirit, and consistently upbeat approach make him a valued member of the team and a great ambassador for apprenticeships within the company.
Billy Dawson, who completed his apprenticeship last year and is now a Graduate Bricklayer, represents the full journey from trainee to qualified professional. His progression highlights the long-term career pathways available through apprenticeships at B&E Boys.
Shannon Pilling has also exemplified the value of apprenticeship training. Since joining B&E Boys, Shannon has successfully completed her Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration with distinction. Her dedication and hard work have earned her a full-time position as Receptionist and Trainee Property Assistant- a testament to how apprenticeships can transform potential into lasting careers.
Hayden Conroy, whilst in his second year of a Level 2 Painting and Decorating apprenticeship at Burnley College, impressed at the SkillBuild 2025 regional heat in Newcastle, finishing second in a challenging competition. His precision, creativity, and composure under pressure demonstrate the skill and professionalism B&E Boys apprentices bring to every project.
We are also proud to support apprentices progressing within commercial roles. Dan Johnson-Ord, now in the fourth year of his studies as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, plays a key role in supporting the site delivery team from Head Office. His work focuses on ensuring cost and time-efficient procurement while developing his expertise in managing costs and improving project margins across a range of construction and development projects, from traditional new builds and refurbishments to Design & Build schemes.
Oliver Baynes, in the second year of his studies as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, is also building his experience within the commercial team. Representing B&E Boys alongside John Boys at a recent Construction Development Alliance networking event, Oliver is gaining valuable exposure to the wider industry while continuing to strengthen his technical knowledge and professional development.
Even moments of historic significance have seen our apprentices recognised. During a visit by His Majesty The King, apprentices Billy Dawson, Miller Heywood, and Harley Rawstron – training in joinery and brickwork – were personally introduced, highlighting the direct impact young talent has on major projects.
Beyond site work, our apprentices are also helping inspire the next generation. Dan Johnson-Ord joined Carl Wilde, Operations Manager, at a recent Careers Day at Alder Grange School, where they spoke to students about the wide range of opportunities available within the construction industry. From trade roles to commercial and professional pathways, they reinforced the message that there truly is “a role for everyone.”
