We are delighted to announce that our project in 3 Shaws Fold, a National Trust property in Styal, Cheshire, is finished and has been handed over successfully.
The Project
Our job was to fully strip out the cottage, and create a seamless kitchen extension in the original style, with a full interior refurbishment including a bathroom and kitchen. All contractors were made fully aware of the historic nature of the building and the importance of preserving it during their inductions, and all the processes used on site were respectful of the status of the property.
Our workmen showed complete dedication to preserving this beautiful old building, though it made the work a real challenge – for example, all sub-structure work had to be dug and completed by hand, due to the confined space within the existing yard – but it was well worth it to see the finished project!
The work also involved careful demolition and structural works, reconfiguring the inside of the premises, repairing masonry and replacing lime plastering, all of which had to be carried out in accordance with the strictest National Trust guidelines for preservation and authenticity – and our team was well up to the challenge.
We carried out a full M&E Installation to the property while completing the new kitchen/dining, lounge with specialist stove, bathroom & bedrooms.
The Building
3 Shaws Fold is a traditional building for this area, and is part of a complex including houses 1-7 Shaws Fold. Originally farm buildings from the early 18th Century, they were converted to mill worker’s cottages with the coming of the Industrial Revolution.
Today, these cottages stand as National Trust properties, showing us how an entire community lived in the time of the Industrial Revolution – one of the most important transformations in our country’s history. We’re proud to have been asked to work on it, and help preserve it for future generations to look back on.
