Padiham Town Hall reopens after flood devastation
It was fantastic to see the official reopening of Padiham Town Hall on Monday 8th January. TV crews from Granada Reports were present to capture the moment, and you may have seen their report on the local evening news.
It’s now over two years since the town hall was left devastated by the infamous Boxing Day floods of 2015. The level of damage to the building should not be understated. The extensive work that was required to get this famous old building to the point when it could be reopened included renewing decorative finishes, doors and casings, skirting boards, windows and wall plaster. Gas, water and electricity services all required significant attention, including a new boiler and full rewiring throughout.
The Mayor of Padiham, Cllr Ken Buckley, conducted the formalities, cutting the ribbon which declared the town hall open once more. During the afternoon, the ballroom held its first dance – by British Championship dancers, Lewis Frobisher and Kate Bodhill. The new dancefloor is perhaps the standout part of the whole refurbishment. The famous sprung ballroom floor was completely destroyed by the floods. In its place, a completely new dancefloor has been installed. It is one of only a few hand-wound floors in the North West.
B&E Boys are proud to have worked on the project to restore the fantastic building that is Padiham Town Hall. We worked closely with Liberata Properties on this major project and it is wonderful to see the town hall open for business once again.
Executive member for resources at the council, Cllr Mohammed Ishtiaq, kindly thanked all those that had been involved in the repair and renewal. He also reserved a special mention to thank the people of the Padiham for their patience during the two years it has taken to get to this point.
The town hall is for the people of Padiham and we are pleased to announce that this impressive and flexible venue is now available to hire. Ideal for a range of events, from dancing to functions and performances, Padiham Town Hall would also be a special venue for a wedding reception.
All bookings will help Padiham Town Council to continue their work developing the town and supporting the local community.
