The Colne Municipal Hall Project Update

23rd February 2024

Supporting and working with the local community is something that is very important to us at B&E Boys and the Colne Municipal Hall has certainly suffered over the years due to under investment. This is often the case in older buildings, but the importance of The Muni (as it’s fondly named by locals) to the community is what made this Levelling Up project so appealing to B&E Boys!

Whilst the work involved a facelift and extensive refurbishment, new windows and doors, reroofing and fire stopping works, additional issues were discovered. Unfortunately, age-related structural issues were discovered and these needed to be addressed urgently, for both safety and the preservation of an important cultural touchstone for the Colne community.

In light of these discoveries, we are now undertaking these crucial repairs. We are also ensuring that we respect the heritage of the building whilst working on the ceiling and repairing the old cornice work. We are fortunate that our contractors are already specialists on renewing lath and applying lime plaster with goat hair – a building process most used from the 1700’s to 1900’s.

We are pleased with how we are progressing, and being able to offer honest reassurance of The Muni’s future resilience.

We will continue to integrate greater energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions – both of the building and the work we carried out. By using a local supply chain we reduce the environmental impact of the work and support the local community as well!

We would like to thank the Pendle Borough Council with partners  Pendle Leisure Trust and Liberata for their continued support.
