B&E Boys is to carry out a new project for Rochdale MBC at Balderstone Library in Rochdale. It involves the construction of a new extension attached to the existing library building. The new extension will comprise new changing facilities and shower areas to serve the sports fields that are adjacent to the building. The extension will also accommodate a community room and a kitchen.
Pre-planning conditions and pre-commencement reports are currently being managed and it is hoped that work will begin on site in January 2021. The approximate value of the project is £600,000.
Libraries are important community hubs and Balderstone Library is no exception. It is free to join any library in England and Wales and this enables members to reserve and renew titles from a choice of thousands of books and audiobooks. You can access a wide range of online resources and download eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks straight to a PC, tablet or smartphone. Joining the Balderstone Library also allows you borrow items from any library across the Greater Manchester Consortium.
The Balderstone Library project is not the first time B&E Boys have worked on projects for Rochdale MBC. One such project was the construction of an extension to Woodland Community Primary School in Heywood. This involved the construction of an extension that included 7 brand new classrooms. Alongside the teaching spaces, the extension also included a new toilet block, plant room and a circulation area. The steel construction of cladding and brickwork replaced temporary buildings that the school had been using for a number of years. All in all, the project enables Woodlands Community Primary School to continue to deliver an excellent standard of education for children in Heywood for years to come.
B&E Boys are also part way through another major project for Rochdale MBC. This £1million project involves the extension of the existing buildings at St. John’s CE Thornham Primary School in Middleton, Greater Manchester.
The first phase of the project involved the construction of the extension and associated electrical installations, and various drainage and external works. Phase 2 comprises of alterations to the existing school building, alongside mechanical and electrical installations. Phase 3, the final stage of the project, consists of a range of internal modifications.
The project at St. John’s will add two new classrooms and a specialist intervention room to the school accommodation. Not only that, a new entrance area with full disabled access, alongside new toilet facilities for both pupils and staff will be added. The overall design has been considered with the existing facilities in mind, so that the additional spaces will complement what the school already has in place, as well as adding extra teaching and learning spaces.
B&E Boys look forward to starting on site for the Balderstone Library project in the new year and continuing our relationship with Rochdale MBC.
