Creation of a medical decontamination unit
After building a similar facility in Bingley, Ramsay Healthcare commissioned B&E Boys Ltd to extend and convert a 9,500 sqft warehouse into a facility to clean its medical instruments. The facility was to service the national group’s five hospitals in Fulwood, Euxton, Ormskirk, Kendal and Salford.
Initial works consisted of cutting through the existing floor slabs to install specialist heat resistant drainage along with foundations for a mezzanine floor. Significant internal configuration took place. The extension was a steel portal frame with cladding and brick/blockwork to house emergency generators, air handling unit, steam generators and associated plant and reverse osmosis water tanks, with the installation of new autoclave washers. Hygienic finishes were designed into the scheme.
