Transformation of a victorian church and vicarage
The Cloisters complex comprised a victorian church and vicarage. Sadly, both in very poor condition. Today, they have been saved and the vicarage now provides beautiful apartments, with a group of bungalow’s in the grounds – a real community.
St James’s Church is the central feature of our Cloisters investment project. The burning question was how to find a viable, alternative use for a beautiful building that was in poor state of repair. Our specialist knowledge suggested that the building warranted commercial development.
Using our traditional skills and some leading edge techniques, we restored the church with sensitivity, retaining and refurbishing historic features, including the landmark bell tower and clock. External features were lovingly restored and an internal steel frame provides mezzanine office accommodation. Today it offers a fabulous working environment; offices with all modern requirements, including under floor heating, in a truly beautiful building. Modern commercial facilities in a delightful picturesque working environment – the best of both worlds
