Situated in Rawtenstall, Rossendale

B&E Boys were awarded a £1.5 million National Lottery-funded transformation project of The Whitaker in Rawtenstall, which included building an extension which linked two levels from the museum to the barn using modern and traditional materials seamlessly link the two spaces.

ThIs project, which was in the planning stages for over three years, involved converting the old stables and barn, to relocate the cafe and bar, thus freeing up exhibition and event space within the existing building.  The transformation of The Whitaker was delivered by Rossendale Borough Council in conjunction with the Whitaker CIC and was supported by money from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The redevelopment has doubled The Whitaker’s space, allowing them to display art and exhibits from their extensive collection, as well as create space for events and activities.

The theme of the redevelopment was nature, society and creativity and the goal was to maximise on the potential The Whitaker held and enable it to become a focal point for tourists visiting the local area.
