B&E Boys are pleased to announce the completion of a large-scale project – with a value of £1.6 million – that began back in October 2020. The project consisted of the construction of a SPAR convenience store and petrol filling station on a brownfield site in Radcliffe, just off the Bury & Bolton Road.
The client for this 35-week contract was James Hall & Co. Limited who are the primary wholesaler for SPAR retailers over the North of England and who also have a portfolio of company owned stores.
The Architects for the project were Ashton Smith Associates, Sleater Watson the Structural and Civil Engineers, and Fusion Building Consultancy the Project Managers and Contract Administrator.
The project comprised the construction of a single-storey portal frame SPAR retail unit and petrol filling station, including all associated infrastructure, forecourt, and fuel installations. Additional work was also required and included the installation of an over-ground and underground specialist drainage system which was imported from Germany. B&E Boys liaised with specialist subcontractors to provide the associated works to the fuel tank and forecourt canopy installations.
The works were complicated and included the pressure grouting of a coal seam and installation of substantial specialist retaining structures; this was followed by ground level remodelling in preparation for the new infrastructure of the convenience store and petrol filling station. The building itself featured a composite roof with brickwork cavity walls and glazed curtain walling. It was essential that care was taken to ensure that the nearby water course did not become contaminated by the works.
B&E Boys have successfully undertaken several projects of this type over the years, involving the reclamation of contaminated land, and have the experience and credentials to take on a complicated and large-scale project of this nature. In a real boost to the local economy, the new convenience store will create 20 new jobs.
