Newcastle, 25th June 2025 – One of B&E Boys’ talented young apprentices, Hayden Conroy, has made a strong impression at this year’s SkillBuild 2025 regional heat, held at Newcastle College, finishing an impressive second place in the Painting and Decorating category.
Hayden, who is in the second year of his apprenticeship and studying Level 2 Painting and Decorating at Burnley College, competed against 10 other apprentices in a timed challenge involving stencil design and a complex decorative paint finish. He completed the task with 30 minutes to spare, showcasing precision, creativity, and composure under pressure.
Hayden joined B&E Boys earlier this year and is progressing well through his apprenticeship. B&E Boys has supported Burnley College over the years, providing valuable opportunities for students like Hayden to develop practical skills within a real working environment.
He is now eagerly awaiting the results to see whether he has placed within the top 8 apprentices nationally, which would secure him a place at the SkillBuild UK National Finals later this year.
Organised by CITB and sponsored by major industry names including Brick Development Association and Crown Paints, SkillBuild is the UK’s largest multi-trade skills competition, designed to highlight excellence in construction-based training and craftsmanship.
Speaking after the event, Hayden said: “I’m so grateful to B&E Boys for accepting me as an apprentice – I’ve already learned so much from the team, and I know I’ll use these skills throughout my career. I’m really looking forward to completing my apprenticeship here. I also want to thank my tutor and apprentice supervisor, Anthony Allen and Declan Richards from Burnley College, for all their help – I’m really grateful for their support.”
Peter Boys, Director, B&E Boys added: “A huge well done to Hayden on this fantastic achievement. His attitude, attention to detail, and work ethic are exactly what we value in our apprentices. We’re proud to have him on the team and wish him the very best of luck in the national results.”
