B&E Boys are pleased to announce the completion of a major project, valued at £2million, that has been running for the past 38 weeks at St. Joseph’s RC High School and Sports College in Horwich.
As is often the case with projects of this size and scope, B&E Boys have been working alongside various other professionals to ensure the successful completion of the works. The lead designer for the St. Joseph’s project is Lancaster Maloney. Very much like B&E Boys, Stockport-based company, Lancaster Maloney, have considerable experience and expertise of completing major projects within the education sector. In fact, designing for educational institutions is very much a core aspect of the firm’s offering. The company has a proud history of designing for institutions at all ages and stages of education, from nurseries to primary and secondary schools – in both the public and private sectors – right through to colleges and universities.
The structural engineer for the St. Joseph’s project, Manchester-based Healey Consulting, also brought much expertise and experience to the table. Well-known across the North West, Healey Consulting have been delivering comprehensive structural engineering services to the professional, commercial and domestic sectors for over three decades.
St. Joseph’s High School and Sports College holds a proud position in the local community with an impressive history of delivering excellent academic attainment through the examination results that its students achieve. It has a long-standing reputation in the community of Horwich, having been established as a secondary school back in 1963. St. Joseph’s is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford.
Alongside its reputation for academic excellence, St. Joseph’s High School and Sports College is also highly regarded in the local area for being an especially welcoming and caring school, providing excellent all-round support for the young people it serves. St Joseph’s also has an excellent reputation for the range and quality of sports and extra-curricular activities the school provides for its pupils.
The complex project comprises of the construction of a brand new two-storey teaching block, a single storey extension to an existing Science Prep Room, as well as a new staff car park.
There were various milestones added to the timeline of the St. Joseph’s project. The car park was the first aspect to be completed over the summer holiday in 2019. Secondly, the Science Prep Room extension was completed by Christmas 2019. Finally, the 40m x 20m two-storey teaching block was completed by Easter 2020. The block, comprised of aluminium windows and traditional brickwork, has been added onto an existing building on the St. Joseph’s site. The ground floor house a new reception area, as well as office space for admin staff and the Business Manager’s office, and the Headteacher’s office. Elsewhere on the ground floor of the new block are a library space and ICT and Drama facilities. To the. second floor, the extension features a toilet block and ten new classrooms.
The whole project, especially the new block, forms an important part of the school’s vision for the future. B&E Boys have a long-standing record of completing projects in the education sector.
