B&E Boys are pleased to announce that work is set to commence on a major new project at Cedar Mount Academy in Gorton Educational Village, Manchester. The project valued 800k begins on 27 June 2022 and will continue for 18 weeks. The client is Bright Futures Educational Trust and Edward Vitalis. The Design Team consists of Bowker Sadler Architecture, Ridge and Partners LLP, SI Sealy & Associates. The Consultants on the project are SDA Consulting.
The project comprises internal refurbishment works at Cedar Mount Academy, a mainstream secondary school with 900 students on roll. The aim of the completed project is to create a much-enhanced Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) provision within the school. Additionally, another aim is to enhance pastoral care across the school – especially for students for whom English is an additional language (EAL), and for those pupils who join the school at any stage between Year 7 to Year 10.
The project will deliver both updated and additional learning spaces to the existing school building. Work will be carried out whilst the school remains in occupation. Naturally, this will mean that the project management will need to consider several issues with care and attention – ensuring that all staff and pupils always remain safe. Disruption in and around the school will also be kept to a minimum. There are six designated work zones across 3 floors. Because of decant issues, sequential construction activity will be required following vacation of the zones.
B&E Boys have a proud tradition of delivering projects for the education sector. For example, in Heywood, Rochdale, a brand-new two-storey extension was constructed at Woodland Community Primary School. The extension comprised 7 new teaching classrooms and a shared group learning space. The project was completed alongside Rochdale MBC Capital Projects.
Another successful project was at St Joseph’s RC High School and Sports College in Horwich, Greater Manchester. The project had a value of £2.1m and the contract period was 38 weeks. Consultants for the project were Quanta Associates, Lancaster Maloney, Healy Consulting, and Integrates Services Engineers. Works consisted of a single storey extension to an existing Science Prep Room, and the construction of a new two-storey teaching block to the school accommodation situated in Horwich, Greater Manchester.
In Wythenshawe, Manchester, B&E Boys also completed a major project at Manchester Health Academy. Works were completed in two stages which ran concurrently. The project included the refurbishments of existing classrooms and laboratories, and a dining room extension. Stage One comprised required mechanical, electrical and structural alterations, and the creation of new classrooms withing the existing school building. Much of the work was carried out during the normal school day with the academy fully operational. Stage Two consisted of the construction of a new steel-framed, brick, curtain walling and steel-clad dining room.
We are pleased to be able to add to our record of working on major projects in the educational sector with the works at Cedar Mount Academy. We will keep you updated on progress.
