Supporting Debbie King’s Iceland Trek for Pendleside Hospice

7th July 2025

At B&E Boys, we are proud to support Debbie King as she embarks on a remarkable challenge in memory of her beloved father and in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

In October 2025, Debbie will take on an awe-inspiring Icelandic volcano and glacier trek, pushing herself far out of her comfort zone, especially given her dislike of cold weather! The journey will see her hiking to Iceland’s youngest volcano, Gelgingaldir, exploring the striking peaks of Mount Hengill, scaling Vörðuskeggi Peak, and witnessing the incredible landscapes along the fault lines between Europe and America.

This isn’t just a physical challenge, it’s a deeply personal one. In 2017, Debbie’s father sadly passed away following a long battle with cancer. In his final days, Pendleside Hospice provided the kind of compassionate care and support that Debbie and her family will never forget.

Despite being told he might not survive the journey from hospital to Pendleside, Debbie’s dad arrived safely, even chatting to the ambulance staff on the way. From the moment the family arrived, they were looked after like one of their own. The staff made sure they didn’t have to worry about anything but being present with their dad, ensuring he was comfortable, peaceful, and treated with dignity.

Debbie recalls the warm, calm atmosphere of Pendleside and the staff’s incredible attention to detail, right down to asking about her dad’s life story.

Debbie’s Iceland trek is her way of giving back to Pendleside for the incredible care they provided during such a difficult time. She had previously signed up for Pendleside’s Great Wall of China trek in 2019, but it was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic. This new challenge gives her another opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the hospice.

Pendleside Hospice is a vital part of our community in Burnley and Pendle, offering exceptional care and support to individuals and families dealing with life-limiting illnesses. The hospice relies heavily on the generosity of supporters like Debbie and people like you.

At B&E Boys, we are inspired by Debbie’s dedication and honoured to back her journey. We encourage everyone to support her trek and help raise funds for Pendleside’s outstanding work.
